Billions of “you are not worthy” messages have been sent from advantaged humans to disadvantaged ones since forever. So terrible, from implicit societal discrimination to the uninterrupted stream of horrendous actions of the U.S. Government towards Native Americans, Black Americans, Japanese, Filipinos, immigrants of all stripes, LGBTQ people, women, poor people, and anyone who is perceived as a threat to white male privilege. Getting off your ass to volunteer your time and/or money to causes that fight this discrimination and help those in need are necessary and important. Also important are the positive messages we can choose to send to one another on a daily basis. For every message of hate, there MUST be a stronger message of love and a desire to understand that which is different. I can never know the truest pain of the oppressed, but my heart aches for and my thoughts often are with those who never asked or deserved to be treated so poorly. Dear humans, I love you and please be nice to one another!
Better spoken: “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” - Martin Luther King, Jr. Local 1199 Salute to Freedom, March 1968
